Congratulations to all Upper Sixth on their excellent results!
Durham High School for Girls – top school and only all girls’ school in the County - continues to celebrate outstanding examination success.
Almost half of this year’s entries – 49% - obtained A* or A at A Level. 88% of the year group obtained A* to C. Virtually one third of the year group obtained at least 3 grade As.
Mrs Ann Templeman, Headmistress said, “Once again we are thrilled with our results; I am quite clear that one of the key reasons for our success is the fact that we are an all girls school where girls can reach their potential in all subjects, especially in Mathematics and Science which are sometimes wrongly seen as male areas.”
The school has state-of-the-art Science, Library, Technology and Performing Arts facilities; it attracts students from an area that extends from Teesside to Weardale and South Tyneside. A number of Scholarships and Bursaries together with some free places are offered at 16+ and many girls choose to join the school for their Sixth Form education. Transport is available from most local areas.
Open Days are to be held on Saturday 8 October and Saturday 19 November between 10.00 am and 12.30 pm. 6th Form Presentation Evening on Thursday 3 November 7 pm -9.30 pm

Individual successes
Emma Clement, is to study Engineering at Newnham College, Cambridge. Emma has been working with production engineers for 3 weeks during the summer holidays in preparation for her future studies She has been learning to weld, drive a digger, work on the assembly line and spray paint at Komatsu UK Ltd. Picture enclosed.
She will be joined at Cambridge by Deputy Head Girl, Heather Keenan, who has won a place at Robinson College to read Medicine. Both pupils have been successful in gaining all A* in their chosen subjects. Picture enclosed of both pupils.
