Chaplaincy

Stained Glass WindowAs a Church of England School, Durham High seeks to support all pupils of any faith or of none, to help them grow to achieve their full potential and help them to explore faith.

Jesus said “I have come that they may have life, life in all its fullness” and that is at the heart of the chaplaincy.  We’re here to provide support and help alongside the school’s pastoral heads, but also to support staff, parents, carers and their families if we can.
The School has a dedicated Quiet room and as well as assemblies, have regular school services, including communion services and services for special occasions, including the Carol Service in the Cathedral at Christmas. As well as a monthly Sunday Service.  There are Lunchtime clubs for Junior and Senior Houses and pupils, which pupils can join at any time during the year.  Pupils, families and staff can also explore baptism and confirmation too.  There are also opportunities to pray together, including the Parents’ and Carers’ prayer group and Staff prayers.

Rev Brett Vallis (an ordained minister in the Church of England) is our chaplain & says “It is a privilege and joy to work alongside pupils and their families, staff and the wider church community.  Durham High is a special place and a great place to explore faith in a safe, open environment.”

If you want to find out more, come along to one of our meetings or services, or you can contact the Chaplain by email: b.vallis@dhsfg.org.uk or by the main school number; 0191 384 3226 (and ask for the Chaplain.)  We hope to see you soon.
