Chaplaincy
Family Sunday Services at Durham High School for Girls, 3.30-4.30pm with refreshments and Sunday School.
As a Church of England school, we believe that we have a responsibility to provide the school community with opportunities to learn about, engage with and practise the Christian faith.
These opportunities come in various forms and include:-
- daily assemblies
- voluntary, year group and whole school communion services
- our Carol, St Cuthbert’s Day and Leavers’ services
- Christian Union groups
- Just Looking courses, like Just10 or Youth Alpha
- Confirmation groups
- a Worship Group
- various prayer meetings for staff, parents and girls
- weekends away
- participation in local Christian youth events and services, like LOL and NE1
- Sunday afternoon services on the 2nd Sunday of every month in term-time (Click here for info)
- mission through the Lesotho Team and the Durham Lesotho Link
- Religious Studies lessons
We also have a dedicated Quiet Room, which every girl is able to use for quiet reflection.
Overseeing the Chaplaincy is Mrs Jacklin, our lay Chaplain, who teaches Religious Studies and runs the Confirmation and CU groups, with the help of school staff and volunteers.
Mrs Jacklin also works alongside the pastoral heads and is always available to talk with students.
