Admissions Information

Standard Entry Points

Ages 3, 4, 7, 11, 16; occasional vacancies may occur at other ages.

Several means tested scholarships are available at 7+.

Scholarships and bursaries are available at 11+, 13+ and 16+.

Junior House

Nursery

(Children aged 3+)

Admission is by informal assessment through play.

Infant and Junior Departments

(Children aged 4+, 7+, 10+)

Admission is by assessment, appropriate to age.

Senior House

Entry at 11+ and 13+

Admission is by examination, interview and school report. The Entrance Examination, in English and Mathematics, takes place in January.

Sixth Form

Entry to the Sixth Form is by interview, school report and GCSE results. Girls are usually expected to have 5 passes in GCSE at Grades A - C, including English and Mathematics, and Grade B or above in the subjects they wish to study at A Level. The Sixth Form Scholarship Examinations take place in February.

Religious Affiliation

Durham High School is a Church of England Foundation; the school day usually begins with an Act of Worship. Christian principles and teaching are at the heart of all we do, although we welcome girls of every faith or of none.
