The structure of the day is a little more formal in Year 1. We encourage and build upon the girls’ sense of independence in all our activities, from unpacking their bags in the morning, making choices at lunchtime to accessing the right equipment to support learning.
In the core subjects we follow the National Curriculum guidelines. Our three termly curriculum themes are; ‘Toys’, ‘Houses and Homes’ and ‘Me and My World’. Where appropriate subjects are linked to these and are enriched by our trips. In previous years we have visited the Durham Heritage Centre, Beamish Open Air Museum, 7 Stories Children’s Book Centre, Blue Reef Aquarium and Souter/ St Mary’s Lighthouse.
French is an addition to the girls’ timetable this year. Also the girls also have the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular instrumental, ballet, gymnastic, multi-sport or tennis lessons.
Year 1 is the next step in the girls’ educational career and we endeavour to create an environment in which they can blossom and thrive.
