The Physical Education curriculum in Junior House provides a broad, balanced, relevant and varied programme of timetabled and extra-curricular activities. From Reception upwards, the girls are taught Gymnastics, Dance, Games, Athletic Activities and Swimming by specialist PE teachers.
For all lessons girls wear a PE kit.
KS1
Gymnastics, Dance and Games are taught throughout the Autumn and Spring terms.
Athletic Activities and Games are taught in the Summer term.
A Nursery and Infant Sports Day is held in the Summer Term for all pupils.
KS2
Gymnastics, dance, games, athletic activities and swimming are taught in Years 3 to 6. Pupils swim on a weekly basis throughout the year in the small pool at Durham City Baths.
A Swimming Gala takes place each Spring Term in the large pool at Durham City Baths. Girls in Years 3 to 6 compete in their house groups for a trophy. All pupils participate whatever their ability. Parents and friends are welcome spectators.
A Sports Day consisting of individual and team running events and an evening of jumping and throwing events is held in the Summer Term on the school field. All girls from Years 3 to 6 participate for a house trophy. The individual girl who gains the highest combined points in running, jumping and throwing is awarded an individual trophy: the Victrix Ludorum.
Individual Tennis tournaments take place during the Summer term for Years 3 and 4 and Years 5 and 6. Girls participate for trophies. A ‘Parent and Daughter’ Tennis tournament is held one evening in the Summer Term alongside the Senior House tournament.
