Chess Club
The girls, many of whom have never played chess before, first learn about each piece and the moves it can make. They then play games involving just pawns before gradually introducing more and more of the other pieces. Eventually, everyone is able to play full games and many learn the more advanced moves like castling and en passant.
Great fun is had by challenging the computerised players on www.chesskids.com, which many of the girls access from home too.
Overall, chess has been a successful introduction at DHS.
