Key Stage 2 - Year 5

Group of three Junior girlsYear 5 is a busy, exciting and fun packed year that includes a residential trip.
English topics provide opportunities to write creatively, through legends, narrative poetry and adventure stories, as well as factually, through persuasive writing, recounts and explanations. Science studies encompass electricity, sound, microbes, health, life cycles and habitats. Topic includes a study of life in Victorian times, which is enhanced by two day trips, an exploration of Tudor England and a cross-curricular study of the north east of England.

At Christmas, the girls perform a Carol Concert comprising of readings, carols and musical performances. In February, they get the opportunity to be cast members in a production staged at the Gala theatre in Durham.

The girls in Year 5 take on greater responsibility through their roles as helpers in the Reception and Nursery classes and as ICT monitors.
Throughout the year, there is a wealth of extra-curricular activity available to the girls, including netball, hockey and rounders.

In addition, the girls get their first opportunities to represent the school in these sports in competition against others. The later half of the year includes a 4 day residential trip to Holy Island.
