Careers Department

AIMS  AND  OBJECTIVES  OF CAREERS  EDUCATION  &  GUIDANCE

Careers Education and Guidance (CEG) can be defined as,

“interventions designed to enable individuals to make and implement well-
  informed realistic decisions about their career and manage subsequent
  transitions”

The aim of the careers department is therefore to provide pupils with the knowledge and skills required to become effective life long career planners.

Aims and Objectives in relation to whole school aims

The aims of the school are ;

  • To create a friendly, caring community based on Christian principles where every individual is valued.
  • To develop the potential of every girl in all aspects of her life.
  • To encourage academic excellence and a life long love of learning.

Careers guidance is an integral part of the school’s overall commitment to pastoral care and the emphasis on preparing pupils for life beyond school.

High quality careers education and guidance contributes to developing potential and  encouraging academic excellence by motivating pupils, raising their aspirations and equipping them with the skills and knowledge to make well informed decisions and manage future transitions.

Pupils are entitled to guidance tailored to meet their individual needs. The CEG programme is designed to enable pupils to develop self awareness. They are encouraged to evaluate and understand their strengths and weaknesses and to consider their personal interests and needs in order that realistic decisions can be made. They should be aware of the educational, training and career opportunities available to them and as a result should be in a position to make informed choices about their future career. The guidance offered is impartial, confidential and based on the needs of the individual.

The Department aims to enable and empower pupils to leave school well equipped and confident in their ability to meet the many challenges of adult life and cope with the demands of a rapidly changing world. They are encouraged to take responsibility for their own career paths and to see the inevitable changes in modern society as opportunities which will allow them to fulfil their potential.
