Textiles at Key Stage 3

This is an exciting new subject to most girls in Year 7 so they begin with an introduction to the safe and confident use of the sewing machine as a creative tool. They develop technical and manipulative skills as they learn how to stitch by machine and hand to interpret their design work in fabrics, paints and threads.

Throughout Years 8-9 students are encouraged to use a wider variety of materials, processes and techniques, with greater emphasis on managing their own learning through research, planning and preparation in sketchbooks, to encourage a sense of personal achievement.

All practical design projects are supported by analysis of the work of established artists and the traditions of many cultures and periods.
