Colours Charity

At Durham High School we believe that it is important that as a community we look outwards to those in any sort of need.  Girls take part in charity events regularly as individuals, forms, year groups, or even the whole school.

We have a particular link with Lesotho and some of our fundraising events take place to raise money for this.

In recent terms we have supported world-wide    charities    such    as   Action

Village India, national charities such as the NSPCC and local ones, most notably St Cuthbert’s Hospice.

Each Christmas Years 10 and 11 organise a successful party in aid of Age Concern when they welcome pensioners from the area to the school and perform, talk and feed them!

The whole school raised money for charities in their houses at the end of the spring term on St Cuthbert’s Day – you can see more of what went on on the Houses page.

Other activities…

Of course, being charitable is not only about raising money.  Our charities prefects in the Sixth Form raise awareness of a variety of local, national and international concerns, and all girls are encouraged to give of their time in service of those in need.  For example girls from Years 10 and 11 visit Sherburn House, a residential home for the elderly and offer manicures and nail painting.  There is also a strong service element to the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme.
