A Year 7 Book Club is held once a fortnight at lunchtime, with lots of games, activities and competitions.

Year 8 and Year 9 Reading Group meets once a fortnight to discuss the latest books and write reviews for the local newspaper. |
TRG - The Reading Group
For Years 10 and 11, this group meets monthly to discuss books chosen by the girls.
6TRG - The 6TH Form Reading Group
This is an opportunity for anyone who is interested in developing as a reader or studying English at university.
Carnegie and Greenaway Medal Shadowing
In the Summer Term pupils in Years 7 & 8 have the opportunity to become judges for these two prestigious awards. The Year 8 Carnegie judges have to read all the books on the shortlist and send reviews to a national website. An afternoon is then spent debating, discussing and voting for a winner.
North East Book Award
This is an annual award for pupils in Year 10. It provides an opportunity not only to read a shortlist of titles, review and judge them, but also to meet the authors at an awards ceremony in January.
Lit Quiz
The Lit Quiz is a knock-out competition for girls in Years 7 and 8. The winners represent DHS at the regional heat of Kids Lit Quiz UK in Newcastle. |
