The House System

All girls are allocated to one of our four houses – Booth, Heath, Neville and Tempest, named after four key families in the history of the area.

The Houses give an important opportunity to girls to interact with people from other year groups and, in the spirit of healthy competition, to take part in a range of activities.

Some activities include:

  • Drama
  • Singing
  • Sport events
  • Quizzes
  • Pictionary
  • Art
House Singing

Girls are also awarded Housepoints for good work and contributions to school life which are added up over the course of each term and which result in a prize for the winning house.  The overall winners each year also win the House Cup.

The ‘House year’ culminates in St Cuthbert’s Day, a day celebrating the life of the school, held at the end of the Spring term.  This year we held the house singing competition with girls singing a range of songs from the ‘Bare Necessities’ to ‘Uptown Girl’.  There was also an Easter Egg hunt and some traditional activities that might have been taken place in the school in the past such as hopscotch and hula hoping.  In the afternoon we divided the school into four and each house raised money for a nominated charity through different games and stalls that you might find in fairgrounds.  Almost £900 was raised in total.
