Music at GCSE

YEAR 10 GCSE: AQA MUSIC SYLLABUS

During Year 10 the GCSE course focuses on:

  • Developing general musicianship skills and knowledge.
  • Increasing skill and technique through composition assignments in a range of styles.
  • Exploring the musical styles and techniques of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods and also of various non-western musical styles.

YEAR 11 GCSE: AQA MUSIC SYLLABUS

During Year 11 the GCSE course focuses on:

  • Composing three pieces for GCSE assessment, including an 'integrated assignment' for which the student organizes a realization - that is, rehearses, records and appraises her composition.
