YEAR 7
During Year 7 the music course focuses on:
- Developing rhythmic skills and understanding, through a range of practical activities
Singing.
- Developing skill and confidence in reading, composing and performing melodies, and in creating accompaniments.
- Exploring elements of the traditional music of West Africa.
- Exploring the characteristics of instruments of the string family.
YEAR 8
During Year 8 the music course focuses on:
- Developing general musicianship skills and knowledge, particularly in compound time.
- Developing creative skills and techniques, improvising and notating melodies with chord accompaniments, including jigs.
- Acquiring skill in using Sibelius music software to notate and play assignments.
- Exploring the characteristics of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.
YEAR 9
During Year 9 the music course focuses on:
- Developing general musicianship skills and knowledge, particularly in using an increasingly wide range of chords.
- Developing creative skill and techniques, developing confidence in improvising and composing in a 12-bar blues idiom.
- Exploring vocal music in a range of styles and forms.
- Acquiring greater facility in using Sibelius music software.
