During the Autumn Term most of Years 7, 8 and 9 submitted an entry for the Gateway Stage of the Futures Challenge 2006/2007. They had to design products that will make time spent on the Moon safe and more enjoyable, looking forward to holidays on the Moon in 2026.
The judges selected 36 to receive certificates which will be given out in science lessons.
Five of the girls out of the 36 were selected to take part in the Teamwork Stage at the University of Teesside, last Thursday.
They had to design and make a personal Moon Survival System for the Earth Space Agency, to be given to every visitor at the beginning of their holiday to protect them if their moon buggy failed whilst on an expedition or if they experienced power loss in their living pods.
The team worked together superbly, each of them making a valuable contribution. After building the model, they gave an excellent presentation to the judges.
Eight schools competed in this heat and WE WON. The girls were awarded individual prizes but also won £500 for the school to be spent on something extra for the science department.
The team now goes forward to the Final Stage.
During the summer term, they will work with a company to solve a real-life design problem and then participate in the Grand Final in July at the University of Sunderland.
The Team consisted of:-
EMMA CLEMENT
SARAH GOULDING
ANNA SMITH
CATHERINE HARRISON
HAYLEY BRADLEY
Will they please come up to receive their certificates.
