At Durham High School for Girls pupils participate and compete in a wide range of sports. We aim to provide a broad, balanced, relevant and varied programme of timetabled and extra curricular activities. In Y7 to 9 hockey, netball, gymnastics, dance, athletics, tennis, rounders and swimming are taught. In Y10, 11 and sixth form a wider range of sports are offered which include aerobics, golf, gym and fitness training, football, badminton, salsa dancing, life-saving, rowing and squash. We also offer GCSE Physical Education and AS/A2 Sport and Physical Education. Extra curricular clubs are offered in hockey, netball, tennis, athletics, badminton, rounders, running, karate and skiing. All girls have the opportunity to play competitively or for fun. House sports events are held in hockey, netball, tennis rounders, athletics and badminton. We offer sports scholarships in year 7, 8, 9 and sixth form. We are looking for enthusiastic and committed students who will participate fully in school sports activities, clubs, practices and teams. In addition to the highly motivated staff who deliver these sports we have a fully qualified tennis coach who provides lessons during the week after school and on Saturdays. We have recently become an Academy for Sport and currently employ a full time Multi-Skills coach.
