The department provides a programme that is broad, balanced, relevant and varied. Although we do not follow the National Curriculum precisely it is used as a guideline to produce schemes of work.
Year 7 pupils are allocated 2 hours and 55 minutes for Physical Education each week. Pupils in years, 8, 9 and 10 receive 2 hours and 20 minutes. A whole afternoon lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes is provided for Year 11 and Sixth form.
Year 7 and 8 have a games lesson, a PE lesson and a swimming lesson each week. The sports covered are hockey, netball, tennis, rounders, athletics, gymnastics, dance and swimming.
Year 9 has two games lessons a week and the sports covered are badminton, hockey, netball, tennis, rounders, athletics and swimming. They also undertake a fitness module.
Year 10 and 11 are offered an option programme, where they select a different activity each half term from sports such as badminton, football, golf, hockey, netball, squash, tennis, rounders, aerobics, fitness, salsa dancing and swimming.
The Sixth Form students are also given a choice regarding the activities they pursue. Activities such as rowing, salsa dancing, street dance, squash, trampolining and gym training are very popular. |
