Curriculum Provision

The department provides a programme that is broad, balanced, relevant and varied.  Although we do not follow the National Curriculum precisely it is used as a guideline to produce schemes of work.

Year 7 pupils are allocated 2 hours and 55 minutes for Physical Education each week.  Pupils in years, 8, 9 and 10 receive 2 hours and 20 minutes.  A whole afternoon lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes is provided for Year 11 and Sixth form.

Year 7 and 8 have a games lesson, a PE lesson and a swimming lesson each week.  The sports covered are hockey, netball, tennis, rounders, athletics, gymnastics, dance and swimming.

Year 9 has two games lessons a week and the sports covered are badminton, hockey, netball, tennis, rounders, athletics and swimming.  They also undertake a fitness module.

Year 10 and 11 are offered an option programme, where they select a different activity each half term from sports such as badminton, football, golf, hockey, netball, squash, tennis, rounders, aerobics, fitness, salsa dancing and swimming.

The Sixth Form students are also given a choice regarding the activities they pursue.  Activities such as rowing, salsa dancing, street dance, squash, trampolining and gym training are very popular.
