Careers Department
Durham High School for Girls (DHS) is committed to providing a planned programme of careers education and information, advice and guidance (IAG) for all students in Years 7-13, in partnership with the County Durham Connexions Service. At DHS we endeavour to follow the National Framework for Careers Education and Guidance (CEG) 11 – 19 in England (DfES, 2003), the Young People’s Information Advice and Guidance Standards (IAG) (DCSF, 2007) the statement of careers education principles (DCSF, 2008) and other relevant guidance from DCSF, QCA and Ofsted that appears from time to time.
At Durham High School the Careers Education and Guidance programme (CEG) is an important means of motivating students in order to raise their aspirations and attainments. The school firmly believes that all students regardless of age and / or Key-stage have an entitlement to a CEIAG programme which will encourage them to see career development as a life long process.
Our careers and guidance programme prepares students for life beyond the classroom, offering them opportunities to become acquainted with the types of decisions and choices which will face them in the future. It is essential that students take an active role in their own career learning, researching and investigating, rather than simply being made aware of them.
