Puzzle Club

Senior girl with maths puzzleAt Puzzle Club we challenge our problem-solving skills with a variety of games and puzzles designed to be played solo, in pairs or in groups. We have some old favourites such as Mastermind, Set and Rush Hour as well as more modern games such as Hue Knew, Blokus and Qwirkle. These all help to develop concentration, visual perception, logic strategy, spatial awareness and tactics as well as being great fun, especially if you can beat the teacher!

In addition to the puzzle club, the Department also holds a weekly puzzle competition open to all Year groups. Each Monday a new puzzle is posted on the Maths notice board and pupils have a week to work on their solutions. All good entries are rewarded with one or two House Points. The competition is popular with all Year groups, including Sixth Formers.

Creative Maths Club

Girls taking part in mathematical activitiesAt Creative Maths Club, we explore a range of practical mathematical activities. Most recently, a group of Duke of Edinburgh girls have been producing greetings cards using curve stitching with a view to raising funds to buy calculators for St. Catherine’s School in Lesotho. A group of year 7 girls have been using origami to make mathematical shapes as well as a range of animals. At Christmas time we made festive icosahedrons from recycled Christmas cards.
