A Year 7 Book Club is held once a fortnight at lunchtime, with lots of games, activities and competitions.

Read On

Year 8 and Year 9 Reading Group meets once a fortnight to discuss the latest books and write reviews for the local newspaper.

TRG - The Reading Group

For Years 10 and 11, this group meets monthly to discuss books chosen by the girls.

6TRG - The 6TH Form Reading Group

This is an opportunity for anyone who is interested in developing as a reader or studying English at university.

Carnegie and Greenaway Medal Shadowing

In the Summer Term pupils in Years 7 & 8 have the opportunity to become judges for these two prestigious awards. The Year 8 Carnegie judges have to read all the books on the shortlist and send reviews to a national website. An afternoon is then spent debating, discussing and voting for a winner.

North East Book Award

This is an annual award for pupils in Year 10. It provides an opportunity not only to read a shortlist of titles, review and judge them, but also to meet the authors at an awards ceremony in January.

Lit Quiz

Girls reading for pleasure during their dinner breakThe Lit Quiz is a knock-out competition for girls in Years 7 and 8. The winners represent DHS at the regional heat of Kids Lit Quiz UK in Newcastle.
