History at GCSE
We follow the OCR Schools History Project course on Medicine through Time with Nazi Germany as our further area of study. Coursework, worth 25% of the marks, takes us to Finchale Priory for our local study, and involves a study of Modern China for our current issues coursework.
The Schools History Project places a particular emphasis on source analysis. This involves a skills-based approach to the subject. Girls are engaged by hands on interpretation exercises that really make History come alive.
Our results are consistently excellent, with large numbers of girls achieving A and A* grades.
The OCR introduction to GCSE History A
Unit A951: Study in Development and Study in Depth
Written examination 45%
• Learners will be expected to demonstrate their ability to describe and explain historical change and cause, and analyse different features of historical situations.
Unit A952: Historical Source Investigation
Written examination 30%
• This paper is based on a coherent element of approximately 200 years of British History and will be based around an historical issue.
Unit A953: History Around Us OR Modern World History
Controlled assessment 25%
Controlled assessment task set by OCR in no more than 2,000 words
