ICT Department

Girls working on PC's in the ICT SuiteICT is forever growing in importance within society. With the advent of new technologies used both inside and outside of school, we see ICT as an integral part of the curriculum. As such ICT is taught as a core subject throughout all stages of the girls' school career.

The ICT Department is housed in our recently constructed Hurworth Building. We have two fully equipped ICT suites which contain Pentium 4 PC's running Windows XP Profesional and Office 2003. Both rooms have networked printers and internet access. All girls have their own monitored email accounts. We also have a wireless network which gives laptop access throughout many parts of the school.

ICT is taught as a compulsory subect in Years 7-11. In 6th form girls are expected to follow traditional ICT academic courses or a vocational qualification.

Pupils are taught to :

  • become responsible, critical, autonomous users of ICT
  • be aware of the ways in which ICT tools and information sources can help them in their work and communication with others
  • understand the limitations of such tools and the results they produce
  • be aware of the use of ICT outside the classroom
  • use the concepts associated with ICT systems and software and the associated technical terms.
