RE at GCSE
We follow the Edexcel specification.
Many girls choose to study Religious Studies GCSE, being attracted by the skills of open-ended thinking and analysis that it offers as well as the vast opportunities for class discussion available!
The course is divided into two units. The two units are:
Philosophy and Ethics
This unit is divided into four sections. This unit requires students to study the relationship between Christianity and philosophical and ethical issues. They will be given the opportunity to explore, debate and critically evaluate many religious, social, cultural and ethical questions and issues which exist in the world today.
The aspects of this unit are:
- Believing in God
- Matters of Life and Death
- Marriage and the Family
- Religion and Community Cohesion
The Nature of St. Mark’s Gospel
This unit is divided into four sections. This unit requires students to study the nature of Christianity and its effects on the life of Christian believers in the UK. This is a fascinating unit, which allows candidates to engage with the themes, concepts and ideas, which have helped to shape the earliest written gospel text.
The aspects of this unit are:
- Discipleship
- Conflict and argument
- Death and Resurrection
- The identity of Jesus
