Senior House Girls

RE - General RE

All girls, who do not opt to take GCSE or A-Level Religious Studies, have general RE lessons, often on rotation with PSHE and ICT. These lessons are primarily discussion-based springing from a stimulus like a film, news article, website, game, etc. The girls learn to debate issues from as many religious and non-religious angles as possible and get an overview of some of the topics covered in more detail by the GCSE and A-Level students.

Topics covered in General RE over 4 years:

  • War and Peace
  • Animal Rights
  • "Truth" and spirituality
  • Wealth and Poverty
  • Matters relating to life e.g. fertilisation techniques, embryology, cloning
  • Sexual Ethics
  • Religion in the media e.g. films, literature, news etc.
  • Philosophy of Religion
  • Medical Ethics
  • Critical Thinking
