AS French
The AQA specification is used.
Pupils are prepared for three examinations:
1. A speaking test conducted by the pupil's teacher.
This includes an exercise where the pupils respond to a stimulus which might be a set of statistics, a cartoon or a short paragraph in the foreign language, followed by a presentation with questions and a general conversation.
2. A comprehension paper which tests the pupil's response to written and spoken language.
3. An essay paper.
These three tests are based on topics which include the media, immigration and multiculturalism, leisure.
A2 French
For A2 French the AQA syllabus is also used and contains a further three papers:
1. A speaking test conducted by the pupil's teacher.
This comprises a reporting task where the candidate elaborates in the foreign language upon a newspaper article provided in English followed by a general conversation.
2. A comprehension paper as in 2 above.
3. Coursework.
The pupil produces two pieces of work during the year on subjects of her choice.
As at AS level, the course is based on topics. These include the future of Europe, the distribution of wealth, the political system, transport, science, further health issues and racism.
