Junior Sports Report 2016-17 - An overview of our sporting events over the last year.
5 October 2016 - the U11 Netball Team played in the Mowden Hall Invitation Tournament. Ten teams in total took place and and Durham High won every game they played to become overall winners of the tournament.
In the Pool games:
They met Westfield in the semi-final winning 6-0 before playing RGS again in the final to win 5-2. This was an excellent team performance and all 10 girls contributed to the superb results. The player of the Tournament was Anna Slane.
28 February 2017 - we hosted the Durham Cluster Schools Year 4 Netball festival. 6 schools took part all entering two teams. Nearly 100 girls enjoyed a full afternoon of netball, superbly umpired by our Year 11 GCSE PE girls.
2 March 2017 - the U10 Netball team played in the Durham School Invitational Netball tournament. They played exceptionally well winning 6 matches and losing only one to become overall tournament winners.
15 March 2017 – in the Durham Cluster Netball Tournament held at Polam Hall, both the U11A and U11B teams played exceptionally well, winning all their matches finishing as tournament winners in both sections.
20 March 2017 - Year 6 and Year 9 girls travelled to Sports Central in Newcastle where they had the honour of being match day mascots and officials. Team Northumbria played Manchester Thunder in an exciting and close match with Thunder being the eventual winners. The year 6 girls enjoyed running out with the players at the beginning of the game and playing netball on the court at half time.
24 March 2017 - the U11 Netball team played in the Newcastle Cluster Schools Netball Tournament.
5 February 2017 - all girls in years 3,4,5 and 6 took part in the House Cross Country competition. The weather was perfect and the girls were all amazing, each and every one trying her best.
The first second and third positions in each year group were:
Year 3 - 1st Harriet Lewis, 2nd Sarah Law, 3rd Aleeza Zulgarnain
Year 4 - 1st Emily Hayes, 2nd Anna Williams, 3rd Sara Bhatti
Year 5 - 1st Charlotte Franks, 2nd Robyn Delaney, 3rd Ellie Corbidge
Year 6 - 1st Elise Blankley, 2nd Ade Obasohan, 3rd Lucy Hayes
1st - Booth, 2nd - Heath, 3rd - Tempest, 4th – Neville
10 March 2017 - the Year 4, 5 and 6 Cross Country teams took part in the Cluster Competition held at Teesside High. All girls ran with great determination producing excellent individual results. Congratulations to Elise Blanckley who finished in 3rd place in her race and to the U11 team who were overall winners of the competition.
8 March 2017 - our annual Junior House Swimming Gala took place at Freeman's Quay. All girls in Years 4, 5, & 6 represented their house in a variety of races. The standard of swimming was excellent this year and congratulations must go to Lucia Baker who set a new school record in the Back-Crawl swimming a time of 17.21 seconds. The overall House winner this year was Tempest.
3 May 2017 - we hosted an U8 mini tennis festival. Eight girls took part from Year 3 against Chorister School and Barnard Castle. It was a fun-packed afternoon of tennis based skills activities and mini-tennis games. Scores were recorded for all activities throughout the afternoon and Durham High finished in second place. The Year 6 girls scored all the matches and counted for all the skills activities, they did a fantastic job.
23 June 2017 - the U11 Athletics team entered the Cluster athletics competition at Barnard Castle. Their efforts and successes can only be described as outstanding.
There were six major events and Durham High won every one of them!
