The Parents and Friends would like to say a huge thank you to all parents and staff for their support this year. They will be holding an informal gathering at school on Wednesday 21 June between 6.30pm and 8.00pm. Join us for some nibbles and a glass of prosecco as we mark the end of another academic year. You can RSVP to the event by clicking here. This event is not suitable for pupils.
Nearly New Uniform Sale
We will be holding a Nearly New Uniform Sale in school, for current and new parents, on Tuesday 27 June from 3.00pm-5.00pm in the Dining Room. We would be grateful for volunteers to help with either the set up or helping to run the sale. Please contact Mrs Steel on [email protected] if you are able to help. All support is greatly appreciated.
Volunteering opportunities at Durham University
Team Durham Holiday Camps are looking for volunteers aged 14+ to join their team this summer to help support their programme of sport and dance camps that they will be running. Volunteers can volunteer anything from 1 day to 4 weeks and can opt into the new Sports Volunteering Academy which will include both development and recognition for academy members. More information, pre-training and confirmation of hours will follow by the end of June/early July. You can sign up here.
DHS Live
Thank you to everyone who contributed to DHS Live on Saturday afternoon. We had a fantastic turnout across the day and the sun was shining throughout. Well done to all the pupils, staff, parents and Old Girls who performed for contributing to such a fantastic talent-filled day. The event raised over £700 for St Cuthbert’s Hospice, which is tremendous.
Engineering Pathway Courses
The Smallpeice Trust is committed to creating new pathways into engineering and helping young people fulfil their potential. These fun courses are for students aged 12 to 17 and cover a variety of fascinating engineering topics.
There are both residential and virtual courses, so if you have a passion for science, technology, engineering or maths or think of yourself as a creative problem solver, you can find out more and register at https://www.smallpeicetrust.org.uk/timetable.
Prep Sport
There were excellent performances from the U11 and U9 cricket teams this week. The U9 teams played at home against Newcastle High School. The team played brilliantly displaying some very good batting and bowling skills. One win and one loss made for a lovely afternoon of friendly cricket. The U11 team travelled to RGS to play in a cricket festival. They played against Dame Allan’s and Ravenswood primary school. The team comfortably won both games, there was very good batting and bowling and show, but the team’s fielding was excellent. Well done to everyone who took part!
Prep Concert
It was such a wonderful evening on Wednesday as pupils in the Prep Department entertained their family and friends at their Summer Music Concert. Pupils displayed an array of talents, from beautiful singing to playing instruments including violins, recorders and the piano. It is unquestionable that a huge amount of hard work went into the concert, with thanks to all the staff involved in ensuring that pupils were well-prepared on the night.
Senior Sport
In Athletics, there were some amazing results at the Durham County School’ Athletics Championships, with Darcy coming 1st in Javelin, Harriet taking 2nd in Discus, Millie 2nd in High Jump and Annabelle finishing 3rd in Shot. This week also saw brilliant performances for our Junior and Intermediate Athletics Teams at the Tyne and Wear Championships.
In Cricket, it was a close and exciting win for the U14 Cricket team against Newcastle High School for Girls. In Rounders, the team came home as U13 Tyne and Wear Rounders Tournament winners. It was an outstanding team performance. Well done to all involved in sport this week.
Summer Uniform Reminder
In the Summer Term, pupils are able to wear long or short-sleeved white blouse without a jumper or blazer. However, while they do not have to wear their blazers in warmer weather, pupils should always have them in school. If wearing socks, please ensure that they are plain, white and unbranded. Trainer socks are not permitted. Pupils should also refrain from wearing fake tan to school and try to bring a water bottle with them to keep hydrated.
