Well done to Year 6 pupils, who completed their 11+ Entrance Examinations for entry into Year 7 today. We were also delighted to welcome a number of wonderful external entrants into school. We look forward to welcoming them into Senior Department in September.

Millie’s running success

Congratulations to Millie in Year 8, who represented Central Durham at the County Cross-County Championships last weekend. Following a great performance, she has been selected to run for Durham at the Inter-County Championships in February.

Prep Sport

Congratulations to the U11 Hockey team, who played in the county tournament last Friday. An excellent display of teamwork and a very exciting end to the afternoon as the placings were decided by penalty strokes. The team finished in 2nd place, which is a fantastic result.

Year 3 played some fantastic Netball against RGS this week. They have been working hard developing their netball skills both in lessons and in netball club and this was clear in their performances. A special well done to India, Rosie, Scarlett, and Zaria who won all of their matches.

Plea for STEM students

The Science Department are looking to hear from former STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) students to help them ‘smash the stereotypes’ for British Science Week 2023. If you are an Old Girl working in one of these areas, we are looking for a few words about the highlights of your DHS school life, the path to where you are now and what your typical day looks like. Please send the information as a Powerpoint slide, or similar format, to [email protected] by Tuesday 28 February 2023 and your story will be used during British Science Week to show our current pupils how they can use STEM in their future careers. Thank you in advance for your support.

Gala Production – March

We are delighted to be returning to the Gala Durham in 2023 for our annual performance, which this year will be the vibrant, energetic and heart-warming musical School of Rock. The stage show is based on the hit film and features 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber, as well as all the original songs that you may remember from the movie.

There will be evening performances from Thursday 2 March to Saturday 4 March at 7.30pm, with a matinee performance also on the Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm. Tickets are £15 for adults and £12 for concessions, with a £48 family ticket also available. You can purchase your tickets now from the Gala Durham website. We hope to see you there.

Breakfast Club

We have taken the decision to stop serving food at Breakfast Club in a morning, because there has been such a low uptake from pupils. Despite this, be please assured that the 7.30am before-school care in the dining room will continue to be offered to all pupils.

Outdoor Tots

Outdoor Tots is a great way for girls and boys aged 1-4 to have fun, exploring the natural world in a safe and stimulating environment. Our sessions for this half term returned earlier this week and take place in our wonderful outdoor learning environment in the Forest Area of the school grounds. Sessions run every Tuesday morning, from 9.30am – 11.00am, during term-time. Places are limited and booking is essential. Tickets are £5 per child (1-4). Additional siblings (1-4) are £2.50 each and any accompanying under 1s are free. Booking is available a half term in advance, so you can now secure your place until the end of February by clicking here.
