Music for a May Evening
You are warmly invited to join us for our Summer Concert, which will take place on Tuesday 9 May in the Main School Hall at 7pm. The programme will include music performed by soloists, Senior Chamber Choir, Middle School Choir, and our orchestra and rock band. Tickets, which include refreshments, cost £4 for adults and £1 for children, and can be purchased on School Gateway.
Leavers’ Service
We will be bidding a fond farewell to our Upper Sixth on Wednesday 10 May at their Leavers’ Service which is taking place at St Oswald’s Church, Durham at 2.15pm. We look forward to welcoming family and friends of the Upper Sixth to the service, where the girls will be reminiscing about their time at Durham High School. Following the service there will be a Prosecco and cake reception in the School Hall for the Upper Sixth and their families; we hope that you can all join us there.
Parliamentary Workshops
Gillian Bell, Parliamentary Outreach Worker, visited school on Wednesday to deliver a presentation on Parliament to Year 8 and Year 10 students. Gillian talked about the roles of MPs and Peers, and the difference between the House of Commons and the House of Lords. This was followed by a workshop on Parliamentary Bills with Year 10 students.
Take One Picture Exhibition – National Gallery
We were thrilled to find out this week that Prep and Pre-Prep have been selected to take part in the ‘Take One Picture’ exhibition at the National Gallery. Each year the Gallery invites primary schools from across the country to focus on one of its paintings and respond creatively. Last year, 177,000 people visited the exhibition in the National Gallery. Further information is available here.
Newcastle University Maths Challenge
Congratulations to Maanashi (Y8) for being awarded a prize in the Newcastle University Junior Maths Challenge and to Joy (Y8) for being awarded a certificate. Congratulations also to Chloe (Y10) who was awarded a certificate in the Senior category.
School Ball
It truly was a fantastic evening at the DHS Viva Las Vegas Ball on Saturday. The room was fantastically decorated, the food was delicious and a great time was had by pupils, parents and staff alike.
We must say a huge thank you to the Parents & Friends Ball Committee for all of their hard work, and to everyone else involved in helping to make the event a success.
Old Girls’ Lunch
We are delighted to be holding the next Old Girls’ Lunch on Saturday 24 June 2022 at 12pm at Durham High School. The lunch will be three courses, including wine and soft drinks, for £25. Tea and coffee will be served afterwards. You can register to attend online, but please do so no later than Monday 12 June. Please feel free to share with any alumnae that you may know.
DHS Live!
On Saturday 10 June we will be hosting DHS Live!, which is our outdoor summer music event to celebrate the musical talents of our pupils and wider school community. The event will run from 1.30pm – 5.00pm in the grounds of the school and the cost is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions. The proceeds from will be donated to St Cuthbert’s Hospice.
