Durham High School would like to congratulate its Year 11 pupils for their resilience and determination in achieving a fantastic set of GCSE results this year.

Pupils have done wonderfully well, which is particularly remarkable given the circumstances under which the nation’s GCSE students have taken their examinations. All Year 11 pupils achieved at least 5 GCSEs Grade 9-4, including English and Maths. Four pupils achieved a full set of Grade 9 results. Overall, 22% of entries awarded the top grade of 9, and 41.7% of entries Grade 9-8. 62.6% of entries were awarded Grade 7 and above, which is significantly higher than the national average of 26.3%.

Principal, Mrs Simone Niblock, praised pupils for their resilience during a turbulent period of education. She said, “A huge congratulations to all our pupils on their fantastic results. We are so proud of them for their success today following what has been an extremely tough time, owing to the Covid pandemic.”

“This good news follows a fantastic set of A Level results last week, with over two thirds of entries awarded A*-A and over 90% of entries A*-B. Both sets of results are so richly deserved and highlight the tremendous hard work of all the pupils involved.”

“These headline results are also a testament to our wonderful teaching staff, who are indefatigable in their efforts to achieve the very best for the pupils in their care, and they and have not faltered in their endeavours, despite what the travails of the previous two years have thrown at them.”

We are delighted to welcome all prospective parents to visit our wonderful school. Our next Open Day is on Saturday 1 October at 10.00am and you can book your place here.
