Durham High School’s Acting Principal, Michelle Hill, is very proud of the wonderful GCSE results which highlight the resilience and tremendous determination of our year 11 pupils. Mrs Hill said, “I would like to firstly congratulate all our pupils and staff for their efforts and the strength they have shown during recent years. These results will allow our girls to look forward with confidence to the next stage of their studies at Durham High School Sixth Form.’

Durham High School pupils have once again secured GCSE results of the highest level, with a third of all grades at level 8 and 9. The year 11 have shown what a varied group they are with 100% Latin, Greek, Biology, Chemistry, French, Religious Studies and Chinese entries all achieving grades 9-6 and two thirds of Art & Design and PE pupils achieved grades 9-8. They also proved to be just as successful in the core subjects, with 100% pass rate for Maths and English, and 70% of all science grades, including Trilogy, at level 9-7.

The overall pass rate was 99%. Izzy C was one of the stand-out performers, with a sweep of 9 GCSEs at Grade 9. Other high achievers included Ruth K and Lexie E, who received 6 GCSEs at Grade 9, Grace A, Keira L and Darcie A with 5 GCSEs at Grade 9, and Katie D with 3 GCSEs at Grade 9.

Mrs Hawkins, Assistant Head of Year, said, “It has been a delight to work with such vibrant and caring young people. As well as working extremely hard, they formed lifelong friendships and supported each other through a challenging year. In addition, many performed in the Gala production ‘School of Rock’ and donned their walking boots on Duke of Edinburgh’s expeditions. Two girls swapped their revision notes for bricks and concrete on their life changing trip to the Philippines, working in a school, alongside current members of the sixth form.’

Mrs Michelle Hill, added: “Many of our girls balance their studies with an array of co-curricular activities and sporting interests, which makes their achievements today even more deserved. We are so extremely proud of all their successes and look forward to supporting them in the next part of their journey. I would also like to pay tribute to our parents, who have shown unconditional support to their daughters and the school.”

We are delighted to welcome all prospective parents to visit our wonderful school. Our next Open Day is on Saturday 30 September at 10.00am and you can book your place here.
