Many young people dream of being on the stage and for others it can be a great way of building confidence.
Often primary schools are too small to provide this experience, so we act as a hub, bringing those together from across the area to rehearse, and then perform in, an annual musical at Durham’s Gala Theatre.
Learning Latin is beyond the scope of many primary schools but remains a fixture of the DHS curriculum. These weekly after-school sessions, based on the adventures of Minimus, a Roman mouse, provide interested primary age children with a fun introduction to the language of the classical world.
Schools across the area are invited to enrol boys and girls in Year 5 or 6 with an aptitude for Science on our 10-week course. In these after-school sessions, the children work on a fun series of science activities with an emphasis on experiment and problem solving.
Again, we open our doors to primary age children who might have little exposure to Modern Languages. For a morning, they learn basic French then have fun putting their new skills into practice by making purchases in a French market.
