Durham High

Learning Support

Durham High works strenuously to assist every girl to achieve her potential.

Learning Support is an important element in the School’s offering through our dedicated Learning Support Co-ordinator who works in close partnership with teachers, parents and fellow professionals including speech and language therapists and educational psychologists. Coloured filters, enlarged text, extra time in exams and strategies for managing exam stress or processing difficulties are some of the areas which we routinely address with excellent results.

Some of the support we can offer:

  • Individual teacher support, made possible by our small classes
  • Assessment and intervention lessons* for specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia
  • One-to-one Maths and English support lessons (and Science in Senior House)*
  • Basic skills lessons for pupils with English as an additional language*
  • Our Buddy Scheme where older students reinforce basic Maths and English for Junior girls
  • General learning support lessons*, including all-important study skills.
