Come and play at one of our Outdoor Tots sessions

Durham High is proud to be one of the top sporting schools in the area. Many pupils perform at elite level, but we also make sure that everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy sport in an inclusive and supportive environment.

Our sports staff know how to nurture and develop talent and we produce excellence across a wide range of activities. Our hockey, tennis, netball, cross-country and biathlon teams regularly reach regional finals and we are never surprised when our netball and rounders teams reach national finals. Strong links with local clubs further enable talented pupils to reach their potential.

Extra-curricular

Because we also have individual athletes competing at regional, national and international level, we make sure they have the support they need to balance school life with their additional training schedules and special dietary needs.

Whether pupils participate competitively or for recreation, our extensive extra-curricular programme is open to all. As well as the team sports of netball, hockey, football, tennis and rounders, other activities include badminton, dance, athletics, cross-country, gymnastics and karate. Our annual Sports Presentation Evening is a fantastic opportunity for parents and staff to share in our pupils’ enjoyment and successes.

House Sports Day at the end of Summer Term is a hearty celebration of Sport for everyone. With House Captains urging on their team members from all year groups and House coloured ‘war paint’, Sports Day is a tradition which Durham High holds dear.

"School teams of all ages are successful in a variety of local and national competitions, and pupils represent regional teams in a range of sports." ISI Report, October 2022.

We are proud that we were one of the first schools in the North East to take girls’ education seriously and together, it’s time to change the world again. You in?
