Sports Presentation Evening

At our annual Sports Presentation Evening on 16th March at Ramside Hall Hotel, 200 guests joined staff and girls of Senior House to celebrate the year’s sporting achievements at DHS. As our guest speaker, former GB swimmer Chris Cook, shared his incredible story, the audience hanging on his every word. He left everyone feeling inspired, enthused and ready to face new challenges. Chris presented the trophies and certificates and no one could fail to be impressed by the achievements of teams and individuals in such a wide range of sports at the High School.

Sports Day

Senior House Sports Day was held this year at Riverside Stadium, Chester le Street. Despite the chilly weather, girls thoroughly enjoyed the morning, chanting and cheering to support their Houses. There were many outstanding performances and new school records were set by Lucy Helm, Alex Julian, Isabella Thompson, Georgia Armstrong and Jenny Thompson. Our Championship Athletes and star performances came from Alex Julian (Year 7), Mia Liddell (Year 8), Anna Brown (Year 9) and Jenny Thompson in Year 10. Booth was the overall winning House, closely followed by Tempest, Neville then Heath.

Town & Gown

In the Autumn Term, Alice Hopper (Sports Captain) and Amy Tinkler (Olympic Bronze medallist) attended the Town and Gown Dinner hosted by Durham High School. Alice gave an insight into sport at school and her experience, whilst Amy Tinkler gave a motivational speech and explained about her time at the Rio Olympics. It was an evening thoroughly enjoyed by the girls and guests.

Team Northumbria Mascots

Year 6 and Year 9 girls travelled to Sports Central in Newcastle in March where they had the honour of being match day mascots and officials. Team Northumbria played Manchester Thunder in an exciting and close match, Thunder being the eventual winners. Our Year 6 girls enjoyed running out with the players at the beginning of the game and playing netball on the court at half time.
