“The school is such a wonderful environment for the girls and the staff are extremely respectful, efficient and helpful. Our daughter recently joined the school and is in Reception and we knew immediately she would be happy there as it’s so homely and welcoming. The pastoral care and communication are second to none. Of upmost importance was the morals and values the school help to instil in our daughter whilst providing her with an outstanding education. This allows our daughter to be in a safe and secure environment where her voice and those of her parents matter and are heard. Thank you to all of the amazing staff for creating such a brilliant educational establishment and for your commitment to delivering such excellent results.”

“Our daughter Ellie has been a pupil at Durham High School since Nursery. It’s a purpose built nursery which, on inspection, immediately had the right feel; it’s the perfect environment for any child, with nurturing teaching staff being more like grandparents. The teaching staff see it as a personal achievement to get the best out of your daughter and will go beyond their duties to ensure they achieve this. Over the years, the teachers have encouraged and supported our daughter to become the confident, polite, caring and conscientious individual she is today. She is now ready to enter the Sixth Form and has recently remarked that the day she leaves school will be a very sad day for her as the teachers are like an extension of her family. What parent could ask for more?

“I was initially reluctant to send my girls to DHS, being local and knowing how good the other schools are in Durham, but have seen my daughters grow into delightful young ladies who are a credit to us as parents and, hopefully, to the school. It is nice to see them compete to be the best they can be, academically and in sport, drama and music! I’m sure I’m now one of the biggest fans of the school and sing its praises to all my friends, family and clients!”
Mr Peter Bartley
“Our daughter Olivia joined DHS in Nursery and has enjoyed every year since in Junior House. She is now in Year 6, soon to embark on her journey into Senior House and she could not be more excited or better equipped to deal with the new challenges she will face. The school has encouraged her to be more confident and outgoing and taught her many important life skills to help her grow and develop. She’s enjoyed so many exciting trips and experiences in and out of the classroom. DHSFG is a first class school with so much to offer to any girl.”
Mrs Annette Davison
“I have been really impressed by the overall “feel” of the school. The girls are all pleasant and helpful, with even the youngest girls in Nursery and Junior House going out of their way to be polite and to help their friends when they are in need. It was great to see that they are encouraged to speak in front of their classmates, right from their time in Nursery.
The obvious care that the staff put into developing the girls as people, as well as academically means that I have no doubt that they will finish school as confident, well-rounded individuals who will be ready to think for themselves and to lead productive, happy, fulfilled lives. The only downside is that my eldest cried when she was taken home from Nursery, saying: I’m having too much fun.”
Mr Chris Tapp
“Both our daughters attended DHS from infancy to 6th form. They have very different personalities and the staff have always sought to bring out the best in them both academically, and as developing individuals. Some parents considering their daughter’s education may be concerned that an all-girls’ school may give a narrow experience. It is quite the opposite. Our daughters have a broad acceptance of society’s diversity and have insight into global issues through their involvement in the Amnesty Club throughout their time in Senior House. The staff are approachable and keep parents informed. They get to know the students really well so can provide valuable support at key times e.g. GCSEs, A levels and with university choices.”

“DHS is an excellent school. My daughters have grown in self-confidence as well as in academic and moral maturity, thanks to its teaching tailored to their different personalities and their abilities. My eldest graduated from Edinburgh University in Geography and is following this with a Masters in Global Migration at UCL. My youngest daughter has accepted a place at King’s College, London to study History and International Relations. Through Durham High School, she became involved with the Holocaust Educational Trust, taking her to Israel as an Ambassador. As a full-time working parent, I also appreciated that my daughters could stay at school until 5.30 pm, knowing that they were in a safe place and able to use that time completing their homework.”
Mrs Lucia Luck
“DHS is a very special community. It’s wonderful to know that your child is in expert hands each day and is thriving, challenged, supported when necessary and, most importantly, very happy. As my daughter approaches the end of her sixth year in Senior House, I have an overwhelming sense of gratitude, not only for the dedication and skill of the teachers, but for their constant care and commitment to my daughter and every single girl.”
