A huge well done to India in Year 8, who was joint winner of the English-Speaking Union’s (ESU) Performing Shakespeare competition 2021.

There were over 1000 pupils in Years 7-9 across the country who competed in the competition, including four pupils from Durham High School.

All four performed in the regional final, which was judged on video submissions, and it was India who was selected to progress to the grand final. This was done under the challenging conditions of a live Zoom call.

Her performance was described by the ESU as her “powerful rendition of Shylock’s famous monologue from the Merchant of Venice, Act III, scene i.” and she was proclaimed joint winner of the 2021 competition. All competitors across the competition were commended for their performances.

Rachael in Year 10 was also part of the legacy competition from 2019-20 and was a runner up in the regional final. We are delighted at their well-deserved success.
