Christina in Year 8 has enjoyed some tremendous karate success in the last few weeks.

During October half term, Christina attended the KUGB Northern Region Championships held at The University of Sunderland. She had particular success in the Children’s Brown Belt Kata event, winning silver after a strong performance of Bassai Dai.

She was selected to compete for the Sendai Kushiro Competition Squad at the KUGB National Youth Championships on the 7 November in Chesterfield. She ended up winning a bronze medal in the same category, after some impressive elimination rounds.

To top it off, Christina achieved her black belt last weekend, alongside her mum, under the watchful eye of Sensei F. Brennan and Sensei G. Harford in Sunderland.

Her Sendai Kushiro Instructor, Sensei H Bruce, said: “It has been a challenging couple of years of training on Zoom at home, in real-life at distance (no partner work) and finally returning to training as we once knew it. To come through all of this and achieve as Christina has, is incredible. We are hoping that this encourages and inspires her to set new goals and targets, and of course to work harder than ever to achieve them.

Well done Christina!
