Come and play at one of our Outdoor Tots sessions

Dear Parent

On behalf of all the teachers, administrators, catering and support staff, caretaking technicians and cleaners at Durham High School, we are writing to say thank you.

This last 14 months has been extremely difficult, and we appreciate that, as parents, you have made some incredible sacrifices to support your children in their education, especially during lockdown, blended learning, and the subsequent return to the classroom. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we have dealt with constantly changing Government guidance, and the upheaval brought about by two unprecedented periods of school closure.

We want to take this opportunity to also say thank you for keeping your distance on the playground and not gathering at the school gates; thank you for helping our pupils to test regularly and keep our community safe; thank you for encouraging your child to stay focussed during remote learning and for helping them with their schoolwork; thank you for recording concert performances and attending virtual meetings; thank you for supporting our staff and for your kind words of encouragement and support along the way. Most importantly, we want to say thank you for keeping your child at home when it really mattered.

Despite this difficult year, the unprecedented circumstances in education, and having to adapt and adhere to social distancing, our pupils remain committed and driven to reach their potential. This has only been made possible with your support.

As we emerge from the Coronavirus pandemic and return to some normality over the coming weeks, we know that, although we have been physically apart for the best part of a year, as a school community we have never been closer.

We cannot wait to welcome you back.

With best wishes

The Headmistress and staff at Durham High School
